Circuitry of memory retrieval in the mammalian hippocampus
The hippocampus is the brain structure involved in encoding and retrieval of memories, but the mechanism by which it does this task is unknown. By tagging active neurons in the hippocampus during memory encoding of an experience and reactivating them later in a controlled manner in specific parts of the circuit, while simultaneously monitoring the neural code at the output region, I am investigating the brain computation underlying retrieval of memories.
