An all-too-common failure of new drugs tested in clinical trials is cardiac toxicity. To detect cardiac toxicity before clinical trials, we developed a technique to measure cardiac function in vitro using high-throughput screening technology to directly measure the force of beating cardiac muscle cells in response to drugs.
