Kathryn Hixson

Kathryn is currently a PhD candidate in Neuroscience working in the lab of Dr. Shelley Russek at Boston University. Her research focuses on understanding the molecular changes in the brains inhibitory systems that occur prior to the onset of epilepsy. These pathway alterations lead to increased susceptibility to spontaneous seizures. She is also working to develop drugs that target these novel pathways that will alter disease progression, and prevent its development. Prior to seeking her doctorate at BU, she graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. in Neuroscience. Outside of the lab, she has worked with the BU chapter of Graduate Women in Science as an officer and with middle and high school aged girls to help them learn the skills to succeed at obtaining jobs, apply to college, and determine the career path they want to pursue.
