Many tumors consume large quantities of glucose, producing the toxic byproduct methylglyoxal. I demonstrated that inhibiting methylglyoxal degradation in lung cancer cells decreased tumor growth due to the resulting methyglyoxal toxicity, which may be a strategy for development of cancer therapeutics.
